The Chinese city of Lanzhou is right smack dab in the middle of the country. It hails as the capital of the Province of Gansu and is the hub of Northwest China for the telecommunication and transportation industries. It is also home to the famous “Silk Road Tourism” ring.
Lanzhou is home to over three million people and is roughly 630 square miles. Historically, the city is well known for its’ place along the Silk Road. It was once a major stop between central and western china. Today, Lanzhou is a beautiful, mountainous and modern city, that is situated alongside the grand, Yellow River.
The Yellow River, also known as the Mother River, is a major part of the city and has some great landmarks of its’ own, including the First Bridge and Watermill Park.
The downtown area of Lanzhou is broken up into five districts. They include Honggu, Anning, Xigu, Chengguan and Qilhe. Chengguan is located in the eastern part of Lanzhou. It is the political, economic, cultural, scientific and transportation center of the city. Anning has been penned as the economic development zone. It is also where most of the colleges can be found.
Some other hot spots in the city include Zhongxin Square, the Guofang shopping center and the Lanzhou Gym. Zhongxin Square is in the center of the city and is a popular entertainment spot for both the locals and for tourists. The Dongfanghong department store is also in the square and is a great place for shopping. Lanzhou also has many parks within the city. Five Spring Mountain Park, Yan Tan Park and Shifogou National Forest Park are the most popular and most well known. Other fantastic places to visit are the Bingling Thousand Buddha Caves and the Labrang Monastery.
Lanzhou is a very important city in Northeastern China. It provides a great transportation, telecommunication, economic and science hub for the region. It is also aesthetically pleasing, nestled between the mountains and the Yellow River. It is also very modern and forward thinking city that is committed to moving the city economically and financially. It also is a great spot for tourists. There are many shopping centers, national forests, parks, caves and monasteries.
